Distinguished R&D Leader, Stryker

Suchitta Misra is a distinguished R&D leader at Stryker Global Technology Center, India, with 20+ years of experience in software development and research. Over the last decade, she has initiated and built R&D groups at the India center for various global product divisions of Stryker, in the area of robotics assisted surgical solutions, software enabled correction devices and shoulder arthroplasty. She currently leads the Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery R&D groups at the India center and her groups work in the area of computer vision, 3D computational geometry, 3D visualization, cloud technologies and application development for the robotic and computer assisted surgery applications in the area of orthopaedics. She has a passion for blending insights from diverse technical domains to create innovations that span technology boundaries e.g. rethinking deformity correction workflow thru web technology software stacks and leverage advances in computer vision and 3D visualization to make Orthopaedic Robots better and intelligent. Her recent work advances the use of analytics and cloud technologies for improved workflow and bringing advancement to the existing robotic technology.

Talks on Wurreka:

The use of robotics has been increasingly growing in medical procedures, especially in robotic assisted surgery. These systems are highly complex, safety critical and having high reliability requirements. They have a need for real time 3D visualization, complex and computationally intensive algorithms and quick real time response for accurate and precise motion control. The choice of the programming language is of paramount importance to achieve these needs.

This talk revolves around the choice of programming language(s) for developing software for the medical robotic systems and what factors drive the decision. As the robot and its ecosystem expand to provide ease of use to the surgeon, how does the software evolve in terms of use of different languages/development environments to provide the different functionalities in an efficient and effective manner.
